Go ahead and get two things from GM.....the AC delete bracket & pulley and new gaskets for the heater box. Also, get a firewall box from a salvage yard S10 with no AC. If using the GM setup (like I did), you'll need to get a non-AC serp belt.
*If your system has refrigerant in it, it will need to be recovered. It is ILLEGAL to just purge the system.
Start by draining all the coolant out of the radiator and removing the radiator. Relieve the tension on the serpentine belt and remove. Disconnect the lines to the condenser and remove. Disconnect lines to the compressor and remove (flat cut bolts hold the compressor on....position them correctly and remove). Disconnect lines from firewall box and bracket for drier. Remove remaining lines and drier. All that should be left is the evap core box on the firewall. Some of the bolts that hold it on may be hard to get to with the wheel well in, so you may wanna loosen it and lower it down (no need to remove completely). Disconnect wiring & remove box from firewall.
I put a non-AC heater box on my truck and am in the process of switching over to non-AC controls and wiring from a donor S10. Wish I could touch on this part more, but I'm still too lazy to get out there and do it and I've had my AC out for over a year now.
I know this is a very crude description, but those are the major players
in the system.
You'll be amazed at how easy it is to remove the intercooler and change plugs now.
