Here is the victom: 772 Vortec head cross section.
As you can see theres lots of metal you can remove on the short side radius:
Unfortunately theres not a lot of meat on the runner roof or floor to open
the port a huge amount (least IMO):
But... the cool thing about it is that when I drilled the walls of the intake
runners at the push rod pinch, as shown in this pic, the thinnest part is still
.140" thick at the top and the thickest is .198" measured at the
bottom of the wall. COOL..
One thing I want to eliminate or at least remove quite a bit of is the bump
right below the spark plug. I drilled it to check its thickness and see if
there was a water passage behind it and there isnt. I didnt break through
till I hit the spark plug hole. No water jacket behind it.. Another coolness
thingy IMO
When I drilled the intake runners to check the wall thickness I also found
that the deviding wall on the two siamesed ports are just a hair over 1/8" thick.
You could prolly knock ~.045" inch off each side of this to widen the
ports even more and still have PLENTY of meat left in the deviding wall for
structural integrady(sp?).
